The Unspoken World of the Body
From self harm to sexuality; from rage to sadness, the body is always present.
LINDA HELM-MANLEY & BRENDA CROFT - Counsellors at CALM and in private practice. Both have run workshops before and Linda has been a facilitator on a one year counselling skills course. Through the unconscious and conscious presence in the therapeutic relationship, our body as well as our mind, tells a story about who we are in the world.
Linda has been practising martial arts for over 30 years now so the body has been a vital piece of the story of her life. Both Brenda and Linda studied in psychosynthesis which is about integrating all parts of the self both from the mind and the body.
We will cover some basic body awareness work as well as much more in depth analysis of the body, such as psychosomatic illness and interpreting the story of our body in relation to this work. We effectively give our body a voice.
This one day workshop will include sharing some work (confidentially) and looking holistically at clients and the way in which they present, which gives us unspoken clues about how we might be able to understand their world. We will also be sharing our personal ‘language’ and its metaphorical meaning to us.
A certificate of attendance will be provided. The certificate can be used towards accreditation and as proof of ongoing professional development as required by the BACP.
