No committee experience is required to be a part of either of these groups.

These groups are not counselling support groups, but give you, the user of the centre, a chance to have a voice in how the centre’s services are delivered and your experience of receiving them rather than just being on the receiving end. The group offers the people who use the Centre an opportunity to express your opinions, put forward your ideas and discuss the centre’s services.

In 2006 the centre applied for and was given a grant to set up a User-led Steering Group. Seven people came along to the first meeting and many of them are now meeting regularly and coming up with ideas which are presented to the trustees at Board Meetings. This group is the CALM Steering Group.

Some of their ideas have already been followed through. One of those ideas led to a programme of workshops for the steering group members. At their request we ran workshops on Presentation, Team Building and Fundraising Skills. The centre is also currently following up on some of their fundraising ideas. See our Fundraising page for current details.

This original steering group also identified a need for a support group of some kind for an isolated section of the community. The centre sourced funding to start a new user-led steering group: the Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual,Transgender (LGBT) Steering Group.  The LGBT group have been meeting for nearly a year. They have renamed the group as Proud2b and are planning an “Awareness” event. Details will be posted on this site when they are available.

Dates & Times of the regular meetings:

CALM Steering Group: The meetings take place once a month, the day varies, between 6pm and 8pm at the Latton Bush Centre.

Proud2b Steering Group: The meetings take place once a month on a Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Latton Bush Centre.
